The University of Notre Dame uses Leica Geosystems laser scanning technology to preserve world heritage sites.
In the popular What would you fight for? campaign, now in its ninth season, the University of Notre Dame spotlights remarkable students, professors and other members of the school’s community doing their part in promoting and protecting important concepts. Each of these two-minute long videos, first broadcasted during school football games on NBC, pays tribute to the university’s moniker, the Fighting Irish.
Showcasing architecture professor Krupali Krusche, one of the segments aired this past fall shares her work to preserve the Taj Mahl in India, her home country. In Fighting to Preserve Our Heritage, Krusche and her team are seen working with the Leica ScanStation and Leica Cyclone. With her research, she has launched a Digital Historic Architectural Research and Material Analysis (D.H.A.R.M.A.) project.
“Our 3D blue prints allow us to understand how ancient structures were built and the techniques used to construct them,” Krusche says in the video. “So, in the event of a natural or man-made damage, they could be restored to their original state.”
